Monkey Junction is the name given to the area at the southern end of College Road, where it intersects with Carolina Beach Road here in Wilmington, NC (the intersection of highways 132 and 421).
The name Monkey Junction originated way back in 1920s when the bus to Carolina Beach stopped at this intersection. A gas station owner located here decided to feature live monkeys as a way to attract business and draw customers from the bus when it arrived. Soon after, whenever bus drivers stopped here they would announce, "Monkey Junction!" and the name stuck.
The intersection itself is now host to a large shopping center, several restaurants and businesses, and there are many fine homes and real estate properties in the area for those looking to relocate to the southern end of Wilmington.
