One of my favorite beaches to visit is Oak Island NC near the quaint town of Southport. It is aptly named Oak Island because of all the bountiful Yaupon trees that abound everywhere on the island. It isn't typical on the beaches to see so much vegetation.
I enjoy going down the south east side of the streets and running into the canal where you always see people enjoying themselves fishing. The canal separates the island about half way down, but there are still plenty of walk overs from the canals over to the beach accesses.
The island is really set up for those who like to be outdoors whether it is fishing on the canals or Intracoastal, taking a walk on their nature trails, or skate boarding at their outdoor facility. One of the activities I like to do is going to the nature center and talking with the local expert about the types of wildlife that are on the island and getting to see a few of them at the center; walking up to the center makes you feel like you're in a tree house for big people!
I was reminded this past weekend how much I adore the island when I was showing some lovely homes to a terrific couple looking for a retirement home that they can share with their "grandbabie's".
If this town peaks your interest, give me a call, and I will be happy to discuss with you further about all the great places to see and do while living there or vacationing there!
